Gourmand perfumery borrows from the kitchen: vanilla, caramel, praline, coffee, chocolate, honey and dried fruit. It is the most immediately likeable family in fragrance and currently the fastest-growing.
Why gourmands work so well here
Sweet notes are deeply rooted in Gulf taste — dates, honey and bakhoor have been part of the regional scent vocabulary for centuries. Modern gourmands like Lattafa Khamrah, which builds cinnamon and dates over vanilla and tonka, sit naturally within that tradition rather than against it.
Balance is everything
A gourmand done badly smells like dessert. Done well, the sweetness is cut with something — spice in Khamrah, coffee bitterness in Black Opium, tobacco in Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille, leather in Ultra Male. That tension is what makes the good ones wearable rather than sickly.
These are cooler-weather and evening fragrances by nature. In peak summer heat, apply lightly.
